Joe’s Crab Shack in Ventura, California, is one of our favorite family restaurants – especially for lunch on a beautiful, sunny day. We love to sit out on the patio and take in the ocean view. The best part, for my 6-year-old, is the outdoor playground right off the patio. She can play while we watch her and enjoy the sea breeze. We also like the food, and will often order an array of appetizers and some beverages for us (the grown-ups) and something off the kids’ menu for our daughter.

The menu at Joe’s Crab Shack includes, naturally, all sorts of seafood. On our last visit, we ordered the following from the appetizer menu: Crab Nachos, Classic Sampler (includes calamari, crab dip, and “great balls of fire,” which are seafood, crab, cream cheese and jalapeños all rolled up), and Garlicky Mussels. Other appetizers include Clam Strips, Bucket of Shrimp (peel and eat), Mozzarella Sticks, and more.
Meal items include buckets of crab, Steampots filled with seafood, corn on the cob and other goodies, shrimp every way you can imagine it, specialty dishes like Crab Cakes, Maui Mahi, Catfish, Lobster, and Salmon, and a variety of hand breaded fried platters. The kids’ menu includes mini burgers, mac’ and cheese, chicken strips, fish and chips, and fried shrimp. Joe’s also has a full bar. See the full menu here: http://www.joescrabshack.com/menu.
