I’ve been wanting to blog, but I’ve been really busy with school stuff lately. I’m just about to wrap up the semester (two weeks left!), which is my fifth semester of my graduate program. Then, a week later, I begin the summer semester. Meanwhile, I’m doing my field work hours, and preparing for internship interviews.
Of course, and most importantly, I’m enjoying my time with my baby Siena. Here’s an update on what’s new with her. She’s officially 13 months old, and she is really taking off in terms of everything.
She’s so close to walking. She spends most of her waking hours standing up, usually balancing herself on the coffee table, couch, little musical play table, or baby gate. In fact, she’s obsessed with the coffee table, the gate, and stairs. They’re all like baby magnets.
She has also started to stand without holding onto anything and balance herself for several seconds (I counted yesterday and got to 6) before wobbling and falling backwards onto her butt. She also walks all the way around the coffee table while lightly holding onto it and the couch. And, she moves pretty fast.
When she’s not standing or getting ready to walk, she’s either playing with any number of toys, flipping through pages of or being read her books (especially this one that has lots of photos of babies), watching one of her favorite DVDs (right now, her favorite is Sesame Street Sings Karaoke – the girl loves anything with lively singing, music and dancing, and this DVD has all of those), or eating. She is a good eater, and is always willing to try new things. Yesterday, she had, for the first time, cheese. I lightly melted some cheddar in a bowl in the microwave and then formed it into little balls. She couldn’t get enough! She also loves bread, plus all the stuff she’s been eating for a while (Cheerio’s is still one of her favorites).
She’s also saying all kinds of new words. One of her favorite words to say is “light” and she points up at various lights in the house when she says it. Other words: “yes,” “armoire,” “Dada,” “Mama,” and more. The other day she was pointing to this little rhinoceros toy, and I said over and over “rhi-no-cer-os.” Trying to say it, she said “huss.”
This morning she did something pretty funny. For a while now, every time our dog barks (and she barks often and loud), I say, “No barking, Kensi,” while shaking my finger (in that no-no way). Now, whenever Kensi starts barking, Siena shakes her finger in that manner. So, this morning we were sitting in the kitchen and my husband was emptying the dishwasher, making a lot of noise – banging the plates around. Siena started shaking her finger at him.
Another first today: my husband took her to the park and she swung on the swings. He recorded it on his phone and showed it to me. It was so cute. She was squealing with delight.
As you can tell, I’m mesmerized by this child. She really lights up my life. I’m one proud and smitten mama.
I better get back to work. I’ll check in soon.
